About me
As the header suggests, ottawalynxblog.com is an unofficial blog about the only AAA baseball team in Canada, the Ottawa Lynx. I am in no way affiliated with the Ottawa Lynx Baseball Club, nor Minor League Baseball (MiLB). I am, however, a fan and supporter of the organization. You can generally find me around the park watching the action or buying food for the kids. Enjoy your visit to the blog!
I can be reached at carlk23@rogers.com.
Thanks for stopping by,
Carl.

Hi! Wondering if Ottawa will be back in the league next year. Lots of weak franchises that could or may move. Any rumors or facts?

Hi Joe,
Sorry, nothing definite about 2008. I hear lots of rumors (some good, some not so good), but I don’t want to speculate. For now, I’m just staying positive about 2007; tomorrow and 2008 will look after themselves.

Hi! I just came across your site and I am really enjoying it. It is great to read about the on field, and in stadium, action. Last year I used to regularly check out the Roch Kubatko blog(http://blogs.baltimoresun.com/sports_custom_roch/) for rumours and tips on who was getting attention by the parent club. Do you have any good Philadelphia websites/blogs you can share that follow both the major league club and minor league affiliates?
Go Lynx!

Check out Topic 2229 of the chiefs blog.

I was there on May 19th and the stadium is nice, but the town is really tired of the owners (who don’t allow the players to throw foul ball/last out souvenirs to the crowd) and the turf in the stadium is horrible without a warning track. Now… I HATE the Blue Jays, but it would be a GREAT thing for Ottawa.

Sorry to take so long to respond. I don’t have a lot of sources for rumors and tips - delawareonline, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Beerleaguer. Most of it is just speculation though.
The Syracuse thing is interesting, but given the brutal press and attendance difficulties here in Ottawa, I wouldn’t think the Jays would be interested. Couple that with the fact that the existing franchise has another year left on its lease… Having said that, if the Lynx do leave town, the only AAA team that would have any kind of shot here (in my opinion) would be one affiliated with Toronto.

Hey guys, I would like to point out that it would save Rogers a lot of money if the Jays’ AAA team gets relocated to Ottawa, it makes perfect business sense to me.

Hey Larry,
As far as I know, all Lynx games are broadcast on the internet. Just go to http://www.ottawalynx.com, and click on the “audio” link when the team is playing.

I stumbled onto the Lynx story, and I am dumbfounded that your community has let this franchise go. I personally think that the CanAm or Northen League are better options (more stability in players), but I hope you don’t lose your ball park.
I have sent a letter to the editor of the Ottawa Citizen:
To the Citizens of Ottawa,
I happened upon the story of the Lynx leaving town, and felt a moment of sadness for the loss to your community.
I also read that there is already a proposal to convert the stadium into covered recreation soccer fields. I don’t deny that the popularity of soccer has increased over the years, but the proposal is akin to “throwing the baby out with the bathwater”. You have a beautiful baseball facility that most communities would be envious of. There are other options for baseball in Ottawa. The Northern League, which has Canadian teams in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton may be a good fit. There is also the Can-Am League which also has a proven track record of success.
If you lose this facility, It will almost be impossible to ever gain one back in the future. Some might think “who cares - I never went to any ball games anyway”, but I would contend that there is something special about baseball that those people just haven’t experienced yet. Everything is cyclical, and just because soccer is the “it” sport today, doesn’t mean that it will continue. Ottawa, please give baseball another chance in your community.

Hi Carl, do you or any of your readers have a video or a DVD copy of the final Lynx game? I’m hoping to acquire a copy for my son’s birthday. Thanks, Kevin

Hey Carl. FLOS (Former Lynx Official Scorer) Frank here. Been catching up on your blogs. I was just wondering if you noticed how the FLT (Former Lynx Team) is doing.
So far, as the “Iron Pigs”, they’re 0-7 with the worst record in the IL. Seems like they picked up where they left off from last season.
I’m waiting one more game before I can say “0-8 for ‘08″. And that’s my decision — pending further review, of course!
Good work on the blogs. Keep it up.
