The never ending Series

Posted by Carl on October 29, 2008

And to add insult to injury, tonight viewers will have to endure a 1/2 hour bit of propaganda infomercial featuring “The One”.  Fortunately, it gives me time to kick out a post before the thing comes to a merciful end.  Could MLB have envisioned a worse set-up than what they wound up with?  Rain delay after rain delay, a near miss with a less than regulation Series winning game, a 10 p.m. EST start, …?

Friend of the blog Tricia was kind enough to pass along a series of links - MLB’s website put up a nice piece on FLP Clay Condrey here.  And in the “better late than never” department, the Phillies World Series roster included some interesting names - Happ, Condrey, Chris “the Complainer” Coste, and -

The Phillies have brought four other players to St. Petersburg in case of injury: pitcher Kyle Kendrick, catcher Lou Marson, first baseman Andy Tracy and outfielder Greg Golson.

Interesting to note that Lou Marson has jumped ahead of FLP Jason Jaramillo.  Funny, JJ’s numbers slipped a bit this year (more Ks, fewer walks, lower average, fewer runs, hits and RBI) - even though he was playing in baseball’s climatological paradise also known as Allentown.  Go figure.

Not that were bitter about any of that stuff.  Adding insult to injury today comes the news that I’ve run afoul of the copyright police:

Dear carlk23,

Nice.  And I was making so much money on the back of Fogerty too.  Swamp music.  Who needs it?

FLP update

Posted by Carl on October 11, 2008

Blog favorites Howie Clark, Joe Thurston and Brian Sanches were all granted free agency (by the Twins, Boston and Washington respectively).  The “line” on Howie in 2008:

2008 Season
Team League AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS

Until I checked over at The Baseball Cube, I didn’t realize how consistent Mr. Clark was - a MiLB career .285 hitter, .262 at the MLB level:

The story is similar for Joe Thurston - in 2008 he hit .316 in Pawtucket, 21 points above his MiLB career .295 average:

When it comes to pitching stats, I’m more than a little lost - I can report that Brian Sanches’ had a respectable season in AAA Columbus with an ERA of .241.  Unfortunately, the average balooned to 7.36 over twelve appearances in Washington:

All three are still young enough (34, 29, 30 respectively), and certainly productive enough that they should have no difficulty re-signing with an affiliated or Independent league team.

Jamey Carroll

Posted by Carl on October 1, 2008

Hat tip to good friend, and friend of the blog, Tricia for the pictures of Jamey Carroll, taken on a recent road trip.  We’re still concerned that Jared may be upset, but what are you gonna do?

Play of the game - nicely timed visit, Trish!

A-ha!  The unshaven “J.L” look!

Now that the Zip.ca era has ended at Lynx Stadium, I look forward to the day that Jamey’s jersey along with FP Santangelo and Jackie Robinson will be returned to the centerfield wall.
