Baseball stuff for a change

Posted by Carl on November 8, 2007

With all the talk (and leaks) surrounding the city budget, the Can-Am League proposal seems to have gotten lost in all the noise (the Citizen being the sole exception - great work from Don Campbell).  It’s just the opposite from a blog perspective - I’ve become so caught up with the politics of the situation that some baseball news has slipped by.

First up (and thanks to Patricia from Cat’s Pride for the heads up), blog favorite Gary Burnham was most recently spotted playing winter ball down in the Dominican Republic - nice work if you can get it.  Gary is/was playing for Estrellas de Oriente, but his stats come to an abrupt halt after October 26.  The rosters for these teams are huge - it’s over 80 guys. Some of his team mates include Ed Rogers, Anderson Garcia, Jose Reyes, Julio Franco (!), Fernando Tatis and Alfonso Soriano (!).  I’ll keep an eye out for Mr. Burnham.

The other fairly major news that I’ve not kept up with is the list of six year free agents.  Included in the list: Mr. Burnham, Rick Bauer, Eude Brito, Ryan Cameron, Gookie Dawkins, Joey Hammond, Landon Jacobsen, Carlos Leon, Bubba Nelson, Matt Padgett, Jim Rushford, Brian Sanches, Danny Sandoval, Pedro Swann, Heath Totten, Dusty Wathan and Charlie Weatherby.  That’s a pretty good chunk of 2007 Lynx players.  There’s also a number of former Lynx players (FLP) including Andy Tracy, Brooks Badeaux, Tim Kester, Ed Rogers and Fernando Tatis.

More later….
