Moving on

Probably a good thing the game was called last night - we would have come home to a completely flooded basement had we piled into the van and headed to the park to wait out a rain delay.
I’m still not certain what transpired yesterday down at City Hall, beyond the non-discussion of the Ottawa Stadium Group bid. As commenter and blogger, taoofstieb has astutely pointed out, the website for one of the proponents of the bid is entirely underwhelming. And you think someone from the group would have been front and centre yesterday as opposed to “couldn’t be reached for comment”. A wild card $40M bid that sails in from left field? Something just seems wrong there - and not just because we’re opposed to the idea. (You’ve also gotta wonder how long it would take before the $40 became $50 or $60M.)
Speaking of left field, congratulations to Neate Sager for winning OttawaStart.com’s “rant of the day” a couple days back (and please ignore my comment on his posting).
In baseball news, unfortunately John Ennis was DFA’d (designated for assignment, for those of you just joining us) - even if he clears waivers, I’m not sure there’s enough time left in the season for him to rejoin. It’ll be close, but I think the earliest opportunity would be Friday or Saturday.
Finally, for now anyway - I’ve been asked where this blog goes after September 3, 2007. I honestly don’t know is my best answer. Frankly, I’ve not permitted myself to look much beyond that date, even though it’s now staring me in the face. What I can tell you is that this will never be The “unofficial” Allentown Ironpigs blog. Never ever ever ever ever. Not that I’m bitter or anything.
I’m leaning towards permanently shutting things down on that date, so if you’ve got comments, complaints, rants… - post now or forever hold your peace.

*shaking head*
This city is ridiculous.
It’s going to be a rough weekend. We went to a Buffalo game on the last homestand, and we were amazed at how bummed we were. We stopped keeping score about halfway through, just because everything was kinda bumming us out.
It’s been a few years of waiting for the other shoe to drop, but now it’s finally here, and we just can’t imagine Ottawa without the Lynx. It reminds us of a line from the movie Croupier: “Hang on tightly, let go lightly.”
Having said that, anyone know where we can get an IronPigs jersey? We want to burn an effigy on Monday afternoon. (Kidding! Sort of…)

Oh, I don’t know, maybe you should change the name to S O B , (Save Our Ballpark, Suck-it Ottawa Beaureaucrats, or just S O B). I think this whole saga bears following. Interesting, it seems like the Lynx were co-operating with Mr. Wolff in the hopes they might ease a replacement of some sort in. I really appreciate that, whether the city deserves baseball or not, I know some of us do deserve it. Soapbox rant on “Why us Canadians are fun-suckers” to follow…….

Carl, do what’s best for you, but here’s hoping the OLB stays on in some form.
In case anyone’s wondering, post-June 1 attendance: 2,136. That’s with a last-place team, an almost 99% certain lame duck franchise, no parking, bad weather in June, only 11 home dates in July and the Senators’ run in the NHL playoffs. That could easily become 2,800 to 3,000, which is just right for the Can-Am League. Of course, there’s an element here that would still dwell on the 1990s attendance records. Give it a rest already, let’s live in the now.
Last season it was 2,407 for June, July and Aug./Sept.

Although “The Sty” (Coca-Cola Park) is located in Allentown PA, the name of the team is not Allentown, but Lehigh Valley. It is the name of the County within PA that Allentown is located.
From the Phillies perspective though, the move makes sense. Now the Phillies only have to send there guys 55 miles away for their rehab assignments.
