Lightning strikes

Posted by Carl on June 9, 2007

And they told you it was cold in Ottawa.  Yesterday was one of those hot, humid Ottawa Valley summer days that more often than not ends with a boomer.  Last night was no exception, but it was startling how fast it rolled through; Josh and the Lynx staff had no chance to get the infield covered.

What’s everyone lookin’ at?

Oh.

Fortunately, Ottawa had gone ahead of Durham in the home half of the fifth on the strength of J.J’s triple (after a pitching change which turned him around to the right side of the plate - not a bad move considering he only hit .180 against lefties), after Joe Thurston (who has the coolest intro. music this year) moved Carlos Leon and Chris Roberson over on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt.

Former Thresher pitcher and recent call-up, Charles Weatherby III, had a very good first showing.  Had it not been for the strong south wind and humid air, what should have been a routine pop-up just kept going, and going until it was a two run dinger.  Nice that his battery mate was able to pick him up and take one from the Bulls.

Getting set.

Icing it down with Rod Nichols.

Best wishes to the ground crew; when I last saw them, they were sitting in the visitor’s dugout looking very much like the host who comes down the next morning, only to find his guests have absolutely trashed his home.

Waterworld.

Three guesses who gets to clean this up… (sorry about the blurry image).

Live blog:  Lynx 4, Pawtucket 1.  Noteworthy: Danny Sandoval 2-3, 3 RBI.  Gary Burnham 1-3, average: .324.
